Fifth grade is having a fantastic year so far!! Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Bensen are so impressed with all of our reflective learners who are risk takers and great communicators!!
Our Current PYP (Primary Years Programme) Unit is Roots and Wings. We are working on understanding how pollution affects our global community. We will be working on creating our family trees, as well as, researching our family names.
Reader's Workshop: We are diving into our new reading curriculum, called MONDO. We are learning to respond to the literature that we are reading. We are also learing about inferencing, main idea, author's purpose, and vocabulary. This includes understanding what they are reading and writing their thoughts about their reading.
Writer's Workshop: In Writer's Workshop we have reviewed what a great paragraph contains. We are working on completing our Biography unit of study. Our students will be completing a four paragraph essay on their subject of choice.
Math: Our math series is Everyday Math. In November and December, we will be working on Units 4 and 5 and the skills in Unit 5 are divisiblity rules, partial-quotients division algorithms, and dividing numbers with decimals. We will work on reviewing on fractions comparing fractions and decimals, as well as, circle graphs in Unit 5.
