 | | | | | | Welcome to Kindergarten!! | | Kindergarteners love to read! There are a variety of ways to enjoy
literature. Read to your kindergartener each and every day. Enjoy
finger plays learned at school, nursery rhymes, poetry and songs. Your
enthusiasm for reading will be passed on to your child. They willl
develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
Language Arts: We have begun our Guided reading Groups. The
Children will now apply the strategies they already know to new
text. Our ultimate goal is independent reading. We have been
working hard teaching them understandings about how print works.
We review letters and their sounds, one-to-one matching and
directionality, inventing text to picture cues and having the class
write and read high-frequency words.
PYP Unit: Our Feelings Within Central Idea: People communicate their feelings in a variety of ways. Inquiries into: The different ways we express our feelings.
Math: We continue to work on number recognition to 30 and
backwards from 10, rote/ rational counting, forming groups of 0 to 30,
recognition of shapes, coins, understanding first and last, sorting and
classifying , comparing size, uses and writing of numbers 0-15+ given a
number, and identifying one more or one less, generating and counting
patterns, comparing the number of objects in 2 or more sets, compare
and order events based on time. (yesterday, today, and tomorrow)
Writing: Children
are labeling their drawings in response to literature and are beginning
to write simple sentences. They are continuing to learn the rituals and
routines of Writer's Workshop and what constitutes good writing
practices. Their writing is mainly in response to literature read to them,
that focuses on our units of inquiry for PYP.
